Premier League Introduces New Hi-Visibility Ball Ahead of Winter

In a nod to the phrase “Winter Is Coming” from “Game of Thrones,” the Premier League is set to roll out a new high-visibility ball aimed at enhancing visibility for players and fans during the colder months and potential snowy conditions.
The tradition of introducing a winter ball in England’s top football league started during the 2004-05 season, coinciding with the annual switch from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time each late October. Since then, from the 2008-09 season onwards, each winter has brought a new version to market, leading to the debut of this year’s 2025-26 ball, which marks the 20th such design. This edition is significant as it coincides with PUMA’s inaugural season as the official supplier of match balls for the Premier League.

Introducing the PUMA Under The Lights edition of the Premier League Ball!
The “Under the Lights” Puma Orbita Ultimate PL will make its first appearance on November 8, when Tottenham Hotspur takes on Manchester United. This ball features a “striking, high-visibility colorway” designed to be particularly noticeable under stadium floodlights, making it easier for fans, players, and VAR officials to track passes, strikes, and goals.
As the current Premier League season unfolds, a total of 209 goals have already been scored across 80 matches, with 11 of those being dramatic stoppage-time goals, the highest proportion recorded thus far. The presence of the new ball is expected to aid goalkeepers in potentially reducing the number of goals for the remainder of the season.
