Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods, competed in local qualifying for the U.S. Open at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He shot a 9-over 81, which was not enough to advance to the national championship at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
Charlie’s round included a bogey on the first hole and a double on the second. He managed to card a birdie on the front nine but struggled with another double on the sixth hole. His back nine consisted of another double, three bogeys, and five pars for a total of 41 strokes.
Unfortunately, only the top-five players and two alternates would move on from the local qualifying round.
Earlier this year, Charlie participated in a pre-qualifier for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic but did not advance after shooting 86. He was also spotted at the Masters with his dad, assisting him with a swing drill.
Charlie was part of his high school’s state championship-winning golf team last fall, and he recently received his championship rings. With his recent appearances in qualifying events, it is likely that he will try to qualify for the U.S. Junior Amateur or the U.S. Amateur later this summer, following in his father’s footsteps who won both events three times.
