Hunter Thomson leads individual standings after 36 holes
of inaugural championship

MacTier, Ont. – The Tigers shot a collective 22-under to lead after the opening 36 holes of the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Invitational at Öviinbyrd Golf Club in MacTier, Ont. on Monday.

The Tigers have a fairly young group this season, with new players entering the line-up. Sophomores Veikka Viskari and Brock Snyder were key contributors on Monday, along with senior Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson. Coach Glen Millican emphasized the importance of focusing and controlling what they could during the long day of golf.

As the Tigers take an 11-shot lead into the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in second place collectively at 11-under, followed by Kent State Golden Flashes at 6-under.

Leading the individual competition is Hunter Thomson of Calgary, Alta. with consecutive rounds of 66 on Monday. Isaiah Ibit, Veikka Viskari, and Weston Jones are tied for second, while Ashton McCulloch, Brock Snyder, and Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson are tied for fifth.

During the tournament, Team Canada is running its selection camp for the 2025 NextGen team. Jager Pain currently leads after 36 holes.

The championship is being conducted over 54 holes in two days, featuring nine NCAA Division I men’s golf teams with Canadian ties and the UBC Thunderbirds. The top finishers in the individual competition will receive exemptions into prestigious golf events.
