The 2024 Charleston Open is the first WTA 500 clay-court tournament, and the draw for the event promises a lot of exciting action.
The Charleston Open is one of the most popular events among the players because it’s just a little bit different. The facilities are excellent because they are run by the Navarro family, to which rising star Emma Navarro belongs.
She’ll be part of this tournament, and many expect her to do really well because she’s so familiar with the event. As a seed, Navarro has a first-round BYE and will start her event either against Arantxa Rus or a qualifier.
Either should be the underdog against Navarro, who is probably the player who knows green clay the best among players. The top seed will be Jessica Pegula, who is no stranger to this tournament.
She played in Charleston in the past and will start in the second round against Alize Cornet or Amanda Anisimova.
Ons Jabeur is the defending champion, and she’s back this year to try to defend her trophy. She hasn’t played that well this year but hopes to find herself against at an event she knows very well. She’ll also start in the second round with either Paula Badosa or Danielle Collins.
That matchup is the best one of the first round because Collins just won the Miami Open, while Badosa is a great player who is trying to find her tennis again.
