The 2024 Estoril Open will be the 9th edition of the ATP 250 event in Portugal, held from April 1st to 7th, 2024.
The Estoril is not the oldest tournament on Tour, but it’s certainly one of the more popular events. Most players that come and play there are amazed by the conditions and the crowd, which supports all players equally.
Casper Ruud has been coming for a few years, and he’s back this year because he actually won the trophy last year. The Norwegian will begin his campaign in the second round, as he has a first-round bye as the top seed.
He will face either Botic van de Zandschulp or Federico Coria. He’s not the only great player who will come to the event, as Lorenzo Musetti will also take part. The Italian played some pretty good tennis in the United States and is now looking to get back on track on his preferred clay, starting against Nuno Borges or a qualifier.
Gael Monfils is another player who will play at the event. He’ll start against native player Henrique Rocha, and that should provide a great atmosphere.
Hubert Hurkacz is the second seed of the event, and he’ll also have a first-round bye. He will face either teenage prodigy Joao Fonseca or a qualifier in the second round.
Fonseca is a teenager from Brazil who played some amazing tennis in South America, and he’ll hope to keep that going on the clay courts of Estoril. He actually got a wild card entry into the event.
Dominic Thiem will also play at the event. It’s not his first time at the event, but it will be tricky as he’s been in rather bad shape recently, losing to a couple of lower-ranked players.
He also experienced some wrist pain recently, so that’s not good news either. In the first round, the Austrian will play against Maximillian Marterer, with the winner taking on the fourth-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
