All the top stars of men’s and women’s tennis will aim to participate in this prestigious tournament commonly known as Tennis Paradise. Whoever wants to triumph in the 2024 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells must outlast a 96-player draw and a tournament spanning almost two weeks.
The men’s field will welcome Novak Djokovic back to Indian Wells, with the former five-time champion seemingly confirming his presence at this tournament for the first time since 2019 on his own website. Djokovic will expect some direct competition from defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Rafael Nadal, a three-time champion in the desert, will hope to recover ahead of schedule and play at least one final time in this venue before he leaves the stage. Some of the men who will look to win the Indian Wells Masters for the first time include Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner.
The women’s field is equally strong, with Iga Swiatek expected to spearhead the lineup. Aryna Sabalenka will attempt to go one better after losing last year’s final to Elena Rybakina. 2018 champion Naomi Osaka will play on US soil for the first time in a while.
Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will be determined to do well in front of their fans, and the likes of Qinwen Zheng, Jelena Ostapenko, and Marta Kostyuk cannot be counted out after a great start to the year.
The Indian Wells tournament organizers will commit prize money amounting to $8,995,555 each for either tour, which would be a marginal increase from last year’s purse of $17,600,000 in total ($8,800,000 per Tour). The tournament will also reduce the prize money for the champions, runner-ups, and semifinalists.
This move will enable them to allocate additional funds to those who lost in qualifying and the early rounds of the main draw. So, the lesser-ranked players who exit this tournament early will stand to benefit.
This will be a combined ATP and WTA event and one of the few that offers equal prize money across both tours. This means that each male and female player will earn exact figures at every round. However, point distribution varies between the two tours in most rounds.
The tournament guarantees the full 1,000 ranking points for the champion and a paycheck worth $1,100,000. For the man and woman who lose the championship match, their takeaway pay will be $585,000, along with 650 points.
Semifinalists bank $325,000, with the male players getting 400 points and the female players getting 390 points. The distribution of prize money and points allocation begins in the first round.
Those players who stumble in their first main draw match will each receive 10 points in both competitions and $30,050. Losing in the second round attracts $42,000 in prize money, with the men getting 30 points and the women 35 points.
