The 2024 Indian Wells Open will be one of the most exciting WTA 1000 tournaments of the season, and the entry list just proves that.
Running from March 6th to 17th, 2024, the first tournament of the popular Sunshine Double is highly anticipated. Last year, Elena Rybakina won the title in Indian Wells after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. This year, both will be back.
Traditionally, the two will be among the biggest favourites to win the title, but the list of favourites will be, as always, very long. There are a few more former champions that would probably want to add their name to the list of winners again.
One of them is Iga Swiatek, who won the event in 2022. But there are a few players who will want to remind the tennis world about their qualities, and those are the 2021 winner Paula Badosa and the 2018 champion Naomi Osaka.
Both of them had to use their special ranking to enter the tournament, and will therefore want to capitalize on the points offered. A few more players opted to use their special ranking, and those are Amanada Anisimova, Daria Saville, Anastasija Sevastova, and Shuai Zhang.
There will also be players who will be eyeing their first title in Indian Wells, but certainly not their first title overall. One player in particular will be happy to return to the United States, and her name is Coco Gauff.
The American started her incredible win streak on the American soil last year, and this year, she will want to repeat that, and what better place to start than Indian Wells.
