Sunday’s NCAA Tournament action features two more games in the Elite Eight as we fill out the Final Four field— first with the Midwest Region final between Purdue and Tennessee. After that, it’s the South Region final between Duke and NC State.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Even though the ACC was just the fifth-best league in the country, according to KenPom.com, the much-maligned conference put its second-place team (Duke), fifth-place team (Clemson) and 10th-place team (NC State) into the Elite Eight of this NCAA Tournament. It’s a wild and unexpected development, one that will give the ACC bragging rights this offseason and some ammo to use next time anybody relies on computer numbers to discount the quality of its conference.

Purdue-Tennessee will get things underway Sunday at 2:20 ET on CBS, where a pair of likely First Team All-Americans will highlight the broadcast. On one side, there’s Zach Edey, Purdue’s overwhelming center who will soon be a two-time National Player of the Year. On the other side, there’s Dalton Knecht, arguably the second-best player in the country who has elevated Tennessee’s program by emerging as the type of dynamic perimeter-oriented scorer the Vols have mostly lacked under Rick Barnes.
Purdue is a 3.5-point favorite over the Vols. Roughly 45 minutes after that game concludes inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Duke and NC State will tip inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Blue Devils are 6.5-point favorites in that matchup.
