2024 Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz takes on Daniil Medvedev

Carlos Alcaraz will face Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, and they will meet for the second year in a row.

The two had some really interesting battles over the past couple of years, and not all were won by the Spaniard. Medvedev is a very tricky player to play against, especially when he’s playing really well, as he’s been playing well this week.

He downed Jannik Sinner in his previous match, even though it was a close affair that went the distance, while Sinner was majorly struggling physically due to being unwell during the match.

Alcaraz hasn’t looked superb at this year’s Wimbledon, but he’s been slowly getting to his best. This will be a match of details because both are slowly peaking, and they know each other well.

Head-to-head:

The pair’s familiarity stems from the six matches they’ve played against each other. The Spaniard has so far been better, with four wins, but the Russian handed him a painful loss at last year’s US Open.

Alcaraz lamented that loss a couple of times because he was the favorite and the defending champion. The matchup suits him really well because he’s just one of the few players who can hit through the Russian’s defense.

Their match at last year’s Wimbledon wasn’t that complicated as Alcaraz was able to win it in three relatively simple sets: 6-3 6-3 6-3.

31-6 2024 W/L 33-9
186-49 Career W/L 366-145

Prediction:

In this match, the young Spaniard may face more complications because he doesn’t seem to be playing at the same level as last year. He’s the favorite and should win, but Medvedev could certainly be able to win a set or two in this match.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in four sets.
