2024 Wimbledon Matchup: Novak Djokovic Takes on Lorenzo Musetti

Novak Djokovic will face Lonrezo Musetti in the semi-final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

The Serbian’s appearance in the semi-final is a minor surprise, mostly because of his knee situation. A fully healthy Djokovic making the Wimbledon semi-final would be the least surprising thing ever, but because he had meniscus surgery a month ago, his appearance could be called a bit surprising.

He’s there deservedly because he’s played really well. Alex de Minaur’s injury pushed him into the semi-final without him playing a single point in the quarter-final, but he’ll have to play this upcoming semi-final, and it’s a familiar name.

Musetti isn’t known as a great grass player, but the Italian has had some notable performances this year. He’s clearly taken a step forward, but now he’s going to face a big challenge, taking on the seven-time champion at SW19.

Head-to-head:

The two have played six times so far in ATP Tour-level matches, and the Italian has managed to win only one. They even played this year, and both of those matches were on clay, with Djokovic winning both.

Musetti is a tricky matchup for the 37-year-old because he always finds a way to trouble him. Now, he’ll try to do the same also on the grass, and it would be impressive if he could, but there is a reason why Djokovic is the overwhelming favorite.

Prediction:

Djokovic generally manages to beat Musetti on clay comfortably. There are usually some smaller hiccups, but for the most part, at his best, the 24-time major winner cruises on the Italian’s best surface. That’s why he’s widely expected to cruise also on grass at Wimbledon.

Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in three sets.
