The 2025 Bucharest Open will take place during the opening week of the ATP Clay court season, from 31 March to 6 April, and the entry list has been released.
Last year’s iteration of the tournament was the first since 2016. It had previously been played from 1993, with Elena Rybakina’s former coach Goran Ivanisevic, David Ferrer, Grigor Dimitrov, and the recently retired Fernando Verdasco among the winners.
Marton Fucsovics was last year’s champion. He defeated Mariano Navone 6-4, 7-5 in the final, demonstrating consistency and clinical performance during crucial moments in Romania.
Fucsovics is not on the main draw entry list. However, the defending champion is second on the alternates list and may receive a wild card into the tournament after his impressive title run last year.
2024 runner-up Navone has a ranking sufficient for the main draw entry list. The Argentine typically excels on clay and aims for ATP 250 clay tournaments like the Bucharest Open to secure a title.
Sebastian Baez, a leading clay court specialist on the ATP Tour, tops the entry list. He excelled on his preferred surface during the recent Golden Swing in South America.
Baez clinched the Rio Open title for the second consecutive year, defeating Alexandre Muller in the final. This marked the seventh ATP title of his career, with six won on clay, and the lone exception being a victory on hard court in Winston-Salem.
The 24-year-old followed up his achievement in Rio with a finals appearance at the Chile Open the next week, where he faced Laslo Djere in a tense encounter, ultimately losing 7-5 in the deciding set.
Flavio Cobolli will be eager to claim his first ATP title in Bucharest. While all competitors on the entry list deserve recognition, the absence of Top 20 players currently presents opportunities for others.
The 22-year-old is a rising talent on the ATP Tour and possesses one of the sport’s most powerful forehands. If he performs at his best, he has a solid chance to succeed in Bucharest.
Nicolas Jarry is also featured on the entry list, but his participation is uncertain due to a withdrawal from the 2025 Indian Wells Open due to a toe injury. The severity of his injury remains undisclosed, creating ambiguity at this stage.
Veteran Roberto Bautista Agut is another name on the Bucharest Open entry list. At 36, despite facing injuries in recent years, the Spaniard continues to compete effectively and shows no signs of retiring soon.
Bautista Agut reached the semifinals of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships when he was near his prime. He remains a determined competitor, making it difficult for any opponent as he plays consistently and solidly from the baseline.
Other players on the Bucharest Open entry list include Fabian Marozsan, Botic van de Zandschulp, Pedro Martinez, and Miomir Kecmanovic.
