2025 Marrakech Open ATP Entry List Features Musetti, Griekspoor, Borges, and More

2025 Marrakech Open ATP Entry List Features Musetti, Griekspoor, Borges, and More

Three tournaments are scheduled for the opening week of the ATP clay court season. One of these is the 2025 Marrakech Open, and the entry list for the tournament has been unveiled.

Initially played in Casablanca from 1984 until 2015, the event moved to Marrakech in 2016. Every edition has been held there since, although it was not played in 2020 or 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Matteo Berrettini won the 2024 iteration of the tournament. He defeated Roberto Carballes Baena in the final, one of the three clay court events the Italian won last year. The others were in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel.

Berrettini is not on the entry list for the 2025 Marrakech Open. The 2021 Wimbledon runner-up’s decision is unknown, but he will be missing unless the tournament offers him a late wild card.

Lorenzo Musetti is the only Top 20 player on the entry list. Berrettini’s compatriot was a clay court specialist at the start of his career, but has become more comfortable on other surfaces, as shown by his run to the 2024 Wimbledon semifinals.

Musetti’s first ATP title was at the 2022 Hamburg Open. He memorably beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final, less than two months before the Spaniard secured his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open.

While there are strong players on the entry list, this year’s Marrakech Open seems like a great opportunity for Musetti to win the third title of his career and first since the Tennis Napoli Cup in October 2022.

Musetti came close three times last season, finishing as the runner-up at the Queen’s Club Championships, Croatia Open, and Chengdu Open. Francisco Cerundolo beat him in a deciding set tiebreak in Croatia.

Tallon Griekspoor could be a dangerous opponent for Musetti and others at the tournament. The Dutchman’s aggressive style is challenging when he is near his best and feels confident on the court.

Griekspoor has shown his talent during memorable battles against top players. One notable example was pushing the eventual runner-up, Alexander Zverev, to a deciding set tiebreak at the 2024 French Open.

2023 champion Roberto Carballes Baena took the unsurprising decision to return to the Marrakech Open. The gritty Spaniard recovered from a set down in the 2023 final against Alexandre Muller to win the title.

As mentioned before, Berrettini denied Carballes Baena in last year’s final, but it was still another great tournament for him. He will probably be confident of more success after his previous performances in Morocco.

Another man on the entry list is the fast-improving Nuno Borges. He has had an impressive few years and continues to work hard to improve his game. The Portuguese usually enjoy playing on clay more than on other surfaces.

Other players on the Marrakech Open entry list include Lorenzo Sonego, Luciano Darderi, Alexandre Muller, Arthur Rinderknech, and Aleksandar Vukic. Hopefully, they will make this year’s tournament in Morocco a memorable one for the fans.
