2025 WM Phoenix Open Implements New Changes Following Turbulent 2024 Tournament

WM Phoenix Open announces changes for 2025 after messy 2024 tournament

After organizing the 2024 WM Phoenix Open plagued by rain, mud, crowds, and increased arrests, the tournament organizers have unveiled a set of changes for the 2025 edition, known as the “People’s Open.”

Construction of new suites and grandstands commenced earlier this month, with a major modification being the addition of a new entrance near the 18th tee box to manage the foot traffic influx during the busiest days of the tournament, Friday and Saturday.

“We believe this new entrance will significantly improve the flow of fans entering and exiting TPC Scottsdale,” stated 2025 WM Phoenix Open Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney. “It will also offer a shorter walk for fans near high-demand areas around holes 16, 17, and 18.”

Another innovation for 2025 is an all-digital ticketing experience, eliminating the “Good Any Day” passes. Fans will now need to purchase tickets for the specific day they wish to attend.

In response to the issues faced in 2024 due to heavy rainfall turning grassy hillsides into mudslides, which cramped fan gathering areas, the 2025 setup will feature expanded walkways to distribute foot traffic more evenly.

For example, the path from the 17th fairway to the 11th hole tee area has been widened, providing more space for comfortable movement. Food and alcohol vendors will also be strategically relocated to balance foot traffic.

General admission spaces near the 7th and 12th holes will be revamped and enlarged to include expanded concessions and new fan engagement opportunities to draw fans away from the densely-packed areas around the 10th green/11th tee and the 16th-18th holes.

“With these enhancements, we are improving two of the most popular areas on the course,” Mooney added. “Fans can expect better viewing, upgraded concessions, and more space to enjoy ‘The People’s Open.’”

The 90th edition of the WM Phoenix Open in 2025 will once again wrap up on Super Bowl weekend, scheduled for Feb. 6-9.

The Thunderbirds, organizers of the tournament, highlighted in a news release that despite the challenges of the previous year, the 2024 event raised a record $17.5 million for charity.
