The San Francisco 49ers are fresh off a bit of a disappointing season.
Following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, GM John Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan parted ways with Steve Wilks and replaced him with Nick Sorensen.
With that in mind, Lynch revealed that they made it a priority to rework their defensive line, which is why they made several veteran additions to that position group (via ProFootballTalk).
“But this year, we wanted some stability,” Lynch said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “So you go find a Leonard Floyd, an established vet, a presence on the opposite side of [Nick] Bosa, a Yetur Gross-Matos, who was really a guy out there that we really got a consensus and felt great about him, and being able to add a guy like that for two years. And on the inside, a Jordan Elliott and a Maliek Collins via trade. We reworked our defensive line.”

The 49ers had one of the best defenses in the league in 2023, but they spent a lot of time working on their defensive line this offseason.
Nonetheless, that also meant they had to part ways with a superstar like Arik Armstead, who’ll now join Josh Allen and Doug Pederson with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Niners boast plenty of talent on both sides of the field, and, once again, they’re firmly expected to be one of the powerhouses and strongest candidates to make it to the Super Bowl in 2024.
This team has been to the Super Bowl twice in the Shanahan era already but to no avail.
And as good as they’ve been since he arrived, another failed trip to the last game of the season would make it tough to justify him staying there for much longer, so there’s a lot at stake for this team in 2024.
