The New York Yankees and their fans were all holding their breath while they waited for Juan Soto’s test results.
The All-Star outfielder left Thursday’s game with left forearm discomfort and was sent for testing on Friday.
He conceded he has been dealing with the issue for a few days now but wanted to play through it.
Given the wide array of potentially disastrous scenarios regarding his injury, it’s pretty safe to say the Yankees got some good news on Soto.
As it turns out, he is only dealing with some inflammation in the area.
According to Yankees skipper Aaron Boone, a stint on the injured list probably won’t be necessary.
“Boone said he expects Juan Soto to avoid the IL. He could be available during the Dodgers series, potentially even tonight,” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.
That’s fantastic news for Soto and the Yankees.
Soto has been a key cog in the New York’s lineup.
He is hitting .318 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI.
Perhaps he could be limited to designated hitting duties for a game or two – there is no word on that yet but it makes sense to play things safe for a few days – but it looks like the Yanks dodged (no pun intended) a bullet here.
There is no ligament or structural damage, so it’s all easier to manage on a day-by-day basis.
They could potentially have one of their best hitters against one of the strongest teams in baseball.
Boone said it himself, per Hoch: “In the grand scheme of things, we got some good news.”
Indeed they did.
