Aaron Boone Reveals Status Of Nestor Cortes For World Series Roster

The New York Yankees have advanced to their first World Series since winning it all in 2009.

They defeated the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Championship Series four games to one, and they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Juan Soto came up with the big home run in extra innings on Saturday to help his team clinch the series.

According to Bryan Hoch on ‘X,’ Yankees Manager Aaron Boone revealed the status of starting pitcher Nestor Cortes ahead of announcing the World Series roster.

“There is a decent chance,” Cortes will be on the roster according to Boone.

Cortes has not pitched for the Yankees this postseason as he suffered a flexor strain back in September which he has been rehabbing.

He started 30 games for the Yankees in the regular season with a record of nine wins and ten losses with a 3.77 earned run average and 162 strikeouts in 174.1 innings pitched.

Cortes pitched in the 2022 postseason with the Yankees where he started three games and had a record of one win and zero losses with a 4.50 earned run average and seven strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched.

It appears that the only thing known for certain is that Gerrit Cole will get the ball in game one of the World Series for the Yankees.

Cole has been dominant for most of his postseason career, and he remains the ace of this Yankees club.

If Cortes returns to the roster, it will be interesting to see how Boone uses him as Cortes has come out of the bullpen previously in his career.

Yankees pitchers will be tasked with slowing down Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers offense in the World Series beginning on Friday.
