AC Milan wastes impactful Christian Pulisic substitute performance

Christian Pulisic looked to have played the hero for AC Milan in Serie A play on Sunday until the Rossoneri conceded two late goals in stoppage time at Monza.

Pulisic came off the bench, scored one goal, registered one assist and played 45 minutes but Stefano Pioli’s men lost 4-2 at Monza. The U.S. men’s national team attacker delivered a lively performance off the bench, setting him up for a potential start on Thursday in AC Milan’s Europa League second leg vs. Rennes.

After going down 2-0 in the first half and going down to 10 men through Luka Jovic’s red card, AC Milan battled back through Pulisic’s contributions.

The 25-year-old flicked a header across the Monza box for Olivier Giroud to cut the AC Milan deficit in half.

Pulisic called his own number in the 88th minute to tie things up for AC Milan, curling a left-footed shot into the top corner. It marked Pulisic’s seventh league goal of the campaign.

However, Monza would regain a 3-2 lead through Warren Bondo’s go-ahead strike before adding an insurance goal thanks to Lorenzo Colombo.

Pulisic and his AC Milan teammates will be disappointed with the result, one that moves them 11 points back of league-leading rivals Inter Milan.

The Rossoneri will next travel to Rennes on Thursday, already holding a 3-0 aggregate advantage in Europa League knockout round action.
