Manchester United academy star Joe Hugill has reportedly signed a new contract to commit his immediate future to the club.
The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell reports that Hugill has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him contracted to United until at least 2026.
There is also an option to extend his terms by an additional year.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person explained that Hugill, who has been training with the senior squad, impressed Erik ten Hag.
Hugill was named on the bench by the United boss during Champions League clashes against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.
He was also included in the United travelling squad that made its way to Goodison Park to face Sean Dyche’s Everton on 26 November.
The Red Devils beat the Toffees 3-0.
Hugill is however yet to get a taste of senior competitive action this term.
It was relayed that the player was on track to be awarded fresh terms to reward his progress and it seems that this has finally happened.
Whitwell states, “He is set to continue his development in the second part of the campaign away from United.”
“Hugill went on loan to National League Altrincham last season and clubs in League One and Two have registered their interest on this occasion, with the window now open.”
This campaign, the 20-year-old has registered seven goals in nine appearances in the Premier League 2 Division.
In total, he has plundered eight goals in 12 matches across all competitions.
United signed Hugill in the summer of 2020 from Sunderland in a £300,000 deal.
