Prices for accommodation in and around Pinehurst, North Carolina have skyrocketed ahead of the 2024 US Open.
Analysis of Airbnb and hotel booking fees shows that some rates have doubled from what they are the week before or the week after the US Open comes to town.
Researchers collected 866 Airbnb and Booking accommodation listings in Pinehurst for the purpose of the 2024 analysis.
The dates were set to June 13 to June 17, 2024 and then compared to average prices of four-night stays on the same days in the weeks before and after the US Open. The accommodation search was for two adults.
When zooming in on Airbnb the average price for a stay in Pinehurst between 13 and 17 June (during the US Open) is $7,560, while the average price for the same amount of days in the week before (June 6-10) is $3,729, and in the week after (June 20-24) it is $1,035.
The accommodation prices during the championship are 102.7% higher compared to the week prior and in the week after the US Open, which are more than seven times lower.
According to the results of the analysis of Booking.com, the average price for a stay in Pinehurst during US Open week is $8,416, while the average price for the same amount of days in the week before (June 6-10) is $4,880, and in the week after (June 20-24) it is $2,870.
The prices during the championship are thus 73.47% higher compared to the week prior and in the week after the tournament, the prices of accommodation are 2.93 times lower.
If the data from Booking.com and Airbnb is combined the average price for a stay in Pinehurst between June 13 and 17 is $7,988 while the average price for the same amount of days in the week before (June 6-10) comes in at $4,304, and in the week after (June 20-24) it averages out to $1,952.
The prices during the championship increase by 85.58%, and the week after the US Open, accommodation prices are four times lower.
At the time of writing, the cheapest option on Airbnb for the dates between June 13 and 17 (during the US Open) is a room with a private bathroom and shared common spaces 12 miles from the Pinehurst Resort for $797.
The cheapest option on Booking.com for the dates between June 13 and 17 is a one-bedroom apartment, seven miles from the Pinehurst Resort, for $1,260.
The 2024 US Open is set to take place on Pinehurst’s famous No 2 course.
