Adrian Peterson Gets Honest About Possible NFL Return

Adrian Peterson Gets Honest About Possible NFL Return

The last time we saw legendary running back Adrian Peterson suit up for an NFL game was back in Week 13 of the 2021 season when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

Since then, Peterson has been on the outside of the league looking in, and despite it seeming like his time in the NFL has likely already come to an end, it sounds like the former league MVP would still like to get another opportunity to play again.

During a recent conversation with CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell, Peterson said the following after he was asked whether or not he has officially retired from the NFL (via NFL on CBS).

“I’m always open to get out there and play again. We’ll see what happens.”

Is it a realistic possibility that Peterson could play again in the NFL?

Unfortunately for the veteran running back, the chances are probably pretty low of him ever suiting up again in the league.

Peterson will be 39 years old in March, he hasn’t played in a game since 2021, and his last season with at least 1,000 yards rushing was all the way back in 2018 when he was with Washington.

Offenses in the NFL are also much more different than they were when Peterson was in his prime.

There really aren’t any actual workhorse, bell-cow running backs in the league anymore, and that’s the type of role that Peterson excelled the most in during his NFL career.

So it doesn’t seem like there’s really much room for him to return to the league, but on the bright side for the legendary running back, he’s currently on track to be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027 if he doesn’t play another down in the NFL.
