Aidan Morris Set to Sign with Middlesbrough

Report: Aidan Morris to join Middlesbrough

Aidan Morris could be crossing the Atlantic Ocean to join Middlesbrough in England’s EFL Championship. The Athletic’s Tom Bogert is reporting that Morris left US U-23 camp to travel to England for a move that could net the Columbus Crew a $4 million transfer with an additional sell-on clause.

Morris, a 22-year-old midfielder from Fort Lauderdale, FL, played in the Weston FC academy before joining the Columbus Crew youth setup in 2017. He attended Indiana University in 2019, and was named the National Freshman of the Year by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Crew signed him to a homegrown deal in 2020, and he’s made 105 appearances in all competitions, helping the Crew lift MLS Cup in 2020 and again in 2023. Stars and Stripes FC ran a player spotlight on Morris in August 2022.

Morris was called to US youth national teams at U18 and U20 levels, but was eligible for both the USMNT and Canada. He made his USMNT debut against Serbia in January 2023. Both the US and Canada listed Morris on their preliminary 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup rosters, and in June, Aidan committed his future to the US. He has 5 caps with the USMNT, and as stated previously, was in US U-23 camp preparing for the Olympics before departing for this potential move to Boro.

Middlesbrough finished 8th in the Championship this past season, just missing out on Premier League promotion playoffs. American forward Matthew Hoppe is also on the books at Boro.
