Ajax’s technical director confirms club’s interest in Christian Eriksen during summer transfer window – Updates on Man United’s news and transfer activity

Christian Eriksen proves his importance in pre-season friendly against Arsenal - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen was on the list of former side Ajax this summer but a deal could not be completed.

The Dane has found regular gametime hard to come by since his second season at Old Trafford.

He has so far only played in four minutes of action for his club but did get 62 minutes under his belt for Denmark last night against Switzerland.

Eriksen was one of the players United would have been happy to sell this summer and was reportedly told to find a new club before the window shut. But despite links to Anderlecht and a last-minute loan deal to Real Betis being turned down, he remained at Old Trafford.

Another side frequently linked to a move for the creative midfielder were his former team Ajax, for whom he made 162 appearances over the course of five seasons.

It was reported that the Dutch giants were looking for a loan deal but United would only entertain a permanent switch as his contract ends next year.

The Amsterdam side’s interest in the player has been confirmed by their technical director Alex Kroes who gave an interview with Ajax TV (via ESPN) stating his admiration for the midfielder.

Kroes confirmed that they do indeed like the United man as “he was definitely on the list, on the long list. A boy from the club, experience, routine and a good footballer.”

Nonetheless, no deal could occur as “in the end, we were unable to create space for that due to all kinds of circumstances.”

These words show that a return to Ajax could certainly be on the cards for the Dane in the near future.

Eriksen has already been told by his interim national coach that he needs to find minutes to continue being selected for Denmark but his agent has confirmed that the player is certain he will find these minutes at Old Trafford this season.

The 32 year old’s representative has also claimed it is hard for a player like Eriksen to drop down to the lower leagues but a side with the history of Ajax, the likelihood of European football and the pull of ending his career where he started may be too strong for the player to turn down.

Perhaps there could be a move as a free agent to Ajax next summer, as they are clearly interested and the player has already stated that this will be his last year at United.
