Alcaraz admits he’s not at Djokovic’s champion level despite Wimbledon victory

Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, securing his fourth Grand Slam title. Despite his success, Alcaraz remains modest, acknowledging that he does not yet feel like a champion on the level of Novak Djokovic.

Outplaying Djokovic in three sets in an impressive display at SW19, the Spaniard exhibited humility post-match, offering praise for his opponent’s accomplishments.

While Alcaraz’s Grand Slam count now stands at four, it pales in comparison to Djokovic’s 24. The young player recognizes the need to achieve more to reach those heights in his career.

Claiming both the Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles in the same year, known as the Channel Slam, is a formidable feat. Only a select few, including legends like Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Djokovic, have accomplished this rare achievement.

Despite this significant milestone at the age of 21, Alcaraz understands he has much more to prove before he can be compared to those iconic champions.

“I think just fighting and believing. I don’t know. It’s huge for me to be part of those players who have achieved it in the same year. Really glad to be in the same table as Novak. Huge champions did it.”

“I don’t consider myself a champion yet like them. I’ll try to keep building my path and journey. It’s a huge moment for me.”

Alcaraz’s future looks promising, and the Channel Slam is likely a title he will capture multiple times in his career, following in the footsteps of Nadal and Borg.

While a challenging journey lies ahead for Alcaraz, he has already exceeded expectations and shown great potential.
