Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe will meet in an exhibition match in Charlotte this December.
The inaugural Charlotte Invitational will be played in 2024 on the evening of December 6th, and the organizers managed to get some of the biggest stars from both the ATP and the WTA Tours.
In the women’s match, fans at the Spectrum Center, where Charlotte Hornets play their NBA matches, will get a chance to see the rematch of the 2017 US Open final between Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys.
In the men’s match, fans will have a chance to see the rematch of the semi-final match from the 2022 US Open, after which the young Spaniard became the youngest man to become the world no. 1, as Alcaraz and Tiafoe will meet on the tennis court again.
The event’s announcement comes after Charlotte’s unsuccessful bid to take over the Western & Southern Open, also known as the Cincinnati Open, which despite the talks, stayed in Cincinnati.
Charlotte Sports Foundation executive director Danny Morrison, however, believes in the new ‘Invitational’ event, as they managed to attract some of the best tennis players in the world.
“All eyes will be on Charlotte as some of the biggest names in tennis face off in an event unlike any other. Expect unparalleled, elevated hospitality that only the Queen City can provide and, of course, elite competition in a sport that’s captivated the world.”
Alcaraz, who will be the biggest star competing at the 2024 Charlotte Invitational, is happy to slightly extend his season and show the fans in Charlotte his tennis qualities, which they will have a chance to see multiple times during the summer all over the United States.
“I am appreciative for the opportunity to compete in the Charlotte Invitational this December. Fans can expect an incredible night and we look forward to providing an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.”
