Juan Carlos Ferrero was not in London for the 2024 Cinch Championships, but he will join Carlos Alcaraz ahead of Wimbledon.
Much like last year, Ferrero was not with Alcaraz at the Cinch Championships. The Spaniard generally travels a lot with his trainee, but he also has a family and his academy, so he doesn’t travel to all tournaments.
He wasn’t with the 21-year-old this week, as Alcaraz competed at the Queen’s Club. Last year, the Spaniard played in a wonderful event to win his maiden grass trophy, but this year, Jack Draper beat him fairly early.
That means there is more work to be done ahead of Wimbledon because he is the defending champion at the grass-court major, and he’d like to defend his trophy in the British capital.
As confirmed by the reigning Roland Garros champion, Ferrero will join him ahead of Wimbledon. A plan is in place to mitigate the early loss in Queen’s and prepare well for Wimbledon.
“Well, honestly, I don’t know exactly day that Juan Carlos is coming. I don’t know if it’s on Sunday or Monday. But, yeah, he’s hungry. I know that. As I said, right now I’m hungry just to be better, to practice, and that’s all I have to do.”
Alcaraz has high hopes for Wimbledon because last year went so well for him. There is only one player who could technically be considered a bigger favorite: Jannik Sinner.
Novak Djokovic’s participation is still in doubt, but regardless of that, Alcaraz will open the event at noon on Monday at Centre Court, and he can’t wait to do that for the first time in his tennis career.
“I’m really excited to starting Wimbledon. Of course I really want to win every title that I go, and I think Wimbledon is even more special. So, as I said, I have time, and excited to start the first match on Centre Court.”
