Carlos Alcaraz is a special player, and one achievement that he matched with the 2024 Wimbledon Championships win highlights that really well.
The Spaniard has already broken some impressive records during his very young career, but he’s not done with breaking records yet. After winning the US Open a few years ago, Alcaraz became the youngest man to become number one ever, which is an amazing achievement considering the long list of great players that rose to the World No. 1 spot on the ATP Tour in the past.
The fact that he did something better than the Big Three highlights how great the feat really was, and his latest achievement is also something he did better than the Big Three. Alcaraz turned 21 on May 5th and will not turn 22 until May 5th, 2025.
That gives him a chance to finish with the most Grand Slam trophies at the age of 21 because, with his win over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, Alcaraz already matched a few players in the amount of Grand Slam trophies won until they turned 22.
Before the final match at SW19, Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg, and Mats Wilander had 4 Grand Slam trophies won by the time they turned 22. The list after that features Jim Courier, Rafael Nadal, and, until then, Carlos Alcaraz, whose Wimbledon win this year is his 4th Grand Slam trophy, which pushes him to a tied first place with a few of these legendary names.
Another benefit is that it gives the Spaniard a chance to secure the number one spot in this statistic for himself because, by the time he turns 22, he’ll play at two more Grand Slams: this year’s US Open and next year’s Australian Open.
Should he win either one of those, he’ll finish with five majors by the time he turns 22, which would make him the sole owner of this achievement. That’s an incredible achievement and shows how good he’s been this early in his career.
