Alcaraz narrows Sinner’s significant lead following Wimbledon victory

Carlos Alcaraz is back in the top two of the ATP Race to Turin after winning his second Wimbledon title last weekend.

Alcaraz’s straight-sets demolition of seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in this year’s final earned him the full 2000 points. With a total of 5950 points, he now sits in second place in the standings.

Currently, Alcaraz trails race leader Jannik Sinner by only 250 points, positioning both players as the closest to meeting the cut-off entry mark for ATP Finals qualification.

Alexander Zverev could narrow the gap to Alcaraz by winning the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg this week. Currently in third place in the race, Zverev is unlikely to lose that spot for the rest of the month.

Daniil Medvedev bolsters his chances of ATP Finals qualification by reaching the Wimbledon semifinal for the second consecutive year. Despite taking a week off, he will maintain his fourth place in the standings.

Casper Ruud can earn a maximum of 250 points this week at Bastad, but that won’t improve his fifth place ranking in the race following Wimbledon.

Djokovic has climbed into the Top 10 and is now in sixth place after securing his spot in the ATP Finals. His remarkable comeback from knee surgery led him to his 10th Wimbledon final last week.

Alex de Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas currently hold the last two spots in the top eight. While Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul are part of the Top 10, they are not playing this week to improve their points tally.

Andrey Rublev, Grigor Dimitrov, and Hubert Hurkacz have all fallen outside the Top 10. The race for the year-end No. 1 ranking is heating up after Alcaraz’s successful run in the last two Grand Slams.

Alcaraz defends the least amount of points compared to Sinner and Djokovic in the second half of the season.
