Alcaraz offers his opinion on surpassing Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam titles

Carlos Alcaraz was asked about chasing Novak Djokovic‘s 24 Grand Slams after winning his third in Paris, and he admitted he’d like to.

The Spaniard is on record for admitting that he wants to be the greatest tennis player of all time. That’s a bold thing to say for a young player, but Alcaraz has the confidence and skill level to back it up.

He just won his third Grand Slam trophy at the age of 21, and he has many more chances to come in the future. He is also on record for admitting that he wants to break Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slams record, which is absurdly bold.

Again, we come back to self-belief, which is really strong. He was asked about that after beating Alexander Zverev in the final of the 2024 Roland Garros, and he admitted that he wants to get to that number, but he’s not really thinking about it much right now.

“I don’t know (smiling). I hope so. Well, I talked to Juan Carlos yesterday. Before facing this final, he told me, you’re going to fight for your third Grand Slam title, with everything you have been through, and you know the difficult part of winning a Grand Slam, and Djoko has 24. So it is unbelievable.”

“Right now I can’t think about it. I just want to keep going, and let’s see how many Grand Slams I’m gonna take at the end of my career. Hopefully reach the 24, but right now I’m going to enjoy my third one, and let’s see in the future (smiling).”

Alcaraz will always be ambitious and competitive, because that’s at the core of who he is, like a tennis player. Chasing records and those milestones is what he’s all about, but obviously, it’s a bit of a premature discussion.

He’s got three majors at 21 and many more years of tennis left. Whether he gets to 24 remains to be seen but he wants to. That’s half the story.
