Alcaraz Reveals Family Told Him He Was ‘Not Smiling As Much’ During Form Struggles

If you have ever watched Carlos Alcaraz do amazing things on a tennis court, you probably have noticed the big, bright smile he has most of the time.

The Spaniard really impressed fans with his happy attitude while on a tennis court, a different image from the generally serious expression most tennis players had. Here, we had this kid who was enjoying every moment on the tennis court, smiling as he outplayed his opponents from all sides.

In recent months, that smile has disappeared. Alcaraz projects a very nervous energy and rarely shows off that signature smile. It returned at Indian Wells this week, and he won the trophy, convincingly so, by beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

Is it a coincidence? Probably not, because the Spaniard himself explained that many people told him that his smile went away, especially towards the end of the year.

“It was really difficult period after Wimbledon. I couldn’t find my style, my game, but anyway, I was enjoying after Wimbledon a really good American swing after that.”

“Of course in Beijing, Shanghai, I did pretty well. At the end of the year I didn’t play well, but it didn’t matter that I was not playing well. I was enjoying.”

Things are looking pretty good again after he won the ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Indian Wells. He’ll move to Miami now and then to the clay tournaments, where many people expect him to dominate with ease.
