Alcaraz Stands by Djokovic Amid Criticism Over Recent Form

Novak Djokovic hasn’t played at his usual high level in 2024, but Carlos Alcaraz believes he is not as vulnerable as some may think. Djokovic, like all players, has periods where his performance doesn’t meet expectations, even though he is known for maintaining a high level of play over the years.

This year, Djokovic has struggled to reach his peak, leading to concerns among some as we approach the five-month mark of the season. However, Alcaraz, a main rival on the ATP Tour, does not share these concerns. In an interview with La Vanguardia, Alcaraz acknowledged that Djokovic has weaknesses, like any other player, but they may be difficult to pinpoint due to their small nature.

Despite Djokovic’s recent lack of tournament victories, Alcaraz does not see him as vulnerable. He points out that Djokovic’s results, although not exceptional by his standards, are still strong with semifinal appearances in Grand Slam and Monte Carlo events. Alcaraz attributes the concern surrounding Djokovic’s performance to the high expectations set by his past successes.

In comparison to other top 10 players, Djokovic’s season would be considered decent by most standards. However, Djokovic’s legendary status in the sport means that anything less than exceptional is seen as a disappointment. His season so far may not meet the incredibly high expectations set by his past achievements as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
