Juan Carlos Ferrero is back to practicing with Carlos Alcaraz after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery late last year.
Juan Carlos Ferrero generally accompanies Carlos Alcaraz at most of his events because they share a really close bond that could be described as a father-son relationship. He doesn’t attend all events with him as he was notably absent for much of his title-winning US Open run.
He would make it to the final, though, which was the most important match. Ferrero also wasn’t with Alcaraz in London last year, though he made it there for Wimbledon. He wasn’t with Alcaraz at this year’s Australian Open either, but that was due to an injury he suffered away from the courts.
Ferrero dealt with a knee injury that required surgical intervention in December of last year. The Spaniard spent time recovering after that and recently returned to the tennis court for some drills with Alcaraz.
That was posted on the X page of his tennis academy near Murcia, where Alcaraz grew up. The Ferrero’s academy is literally based in the same part of Spain where Alcaraz grew up.
He’s basically training at home, which is always pretty nice. The social media post showed both in great spirits with the caption welcoming the Spanish coach back.
“We’re so excited to see Juan Carlos [Ferrero] training Carlos Alcaraz again after his recovery. It’s time to prepare for the Latin American clay-court circuit! VAMOS TEAM.”
Alcaraz didn’t play all that well in Australia, and some suggested that it might be due to not having his coach with him, but he denied that. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks and whether Alcaraz plays better. It’s been a while since we saw him at his best, but an ATP 250 event in Buenos Aires can get him up to speed again.
