Carlos Alcaraz had an interesting interaction at the 2024 Australian Open, when he was asked if he watches women’s tennis, he danced around, failing to name examples as he did with the ATP Tour.
The Spaniard put on an excellent performance on the courts in his fourth-round match before the quarter-final against Alexander Zverev. He played Miomir Kecmanovic, who can be a pretty solid player, though the Serbian stood no chance against the Spaniard.
A pretty convincing 3-set win sent the Spaniard into his maiden Australian Open quarter-final, where he’s the favourite against Zverev. After that match against Kecmanovic, Alcaraz was being interviewed on the court and kind of tripped himself into a pretty tricky situation.
Jim Courier asked him if he watches other players during events, something he already confirmed he did last year, and he responded positively this time around. He named some of the players he watched during this event, so Courier asked him about female players.
“I watch the WTA as well. When I turn the TV on [Smiling] If it’s WTA, ATP, I like to watch.”
Former ATP player Mardy Fish had a pretty interesting take on Alcaraz’s dancing around the question, insinuating that he’s dating somebody on the WTA Tour.
“My man has gotta be dating someone on WTA Tour…??”
Some fans engaged with it, and ultimately, Fish settled that he was indeed dating somebody on the WTA Tour and sent fans on a mission to find out. Jokingly, of course.
Yup. Get to the bottom of it.
So now the hunt begins. Eagled-eye fans will be on the lookout for Spotify playlists or similar things until either Alcaraz or somebody else clears the air. Hopefully, none of this ends up being a distraction for him because he’s having a really good run in Melbourne.
