Alejandro Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, has launched a staunch defence of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, absolving him of any blame for the club’s current struggles on the pitch.

United followed up consecutive wins vs. Southampton and Barnsley with back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and FC Twente on Wednesday night.

In the meetings with Palace and Twente, the Red Devils fashioned multiple clear-cut goalscoring chances but they failed to finish them and as a result, had to settle for a share of the points.

Ten Hag accused his toothless stars of complacency after the final whistle vs. Twente.

Indeed, United have found the net only five times in their opening five league games with three of those goals coming in the win away to the Saints.

The team’s failure to muster positive results in the past few matches has led to Ten Hag coming under some pressure as the 20-time English champions prepare to meet Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

However, according to Roberto, Ten Hag was not responsible for the frustrating draw with Twente as he called on the players to take responsibility.

Garnacho’s brother wrote on X (via The Mirror), “Btw you all blame Ten Hag, but 11 United players not being able to smash them at home, I don’t think that’s on Ten Hag mate.”

“We literally dominated the whole game, we couldn’t score more than a goal, individual mistake makes them score, what’s he supposed to do?”

“They were not even getting into our box, if we are not able to score more than a goal against Twente, it is not on him (their goal was a mistake from one of our players too).”

He added, “Same last game btw, dominated but couldn’t score a goal, somehow last week it was the wingers’ fault, this one Ten Hag’s. If last game we would have gone 2-0 at half-time and won (attackers’ fault because they couldn’t score their chances) you all would say he is being perfect, same today.”

Ten Hag himself recently admitted that United’s main problem is their failure to score enough goals but backed new signing Joshua Zirkzee to become prolific and help overturn the situation
