Sunday night marked another trophy lift for American attacker Alex Zendejas.
Zendejas and Club America lifted the Liga MX Clausura title on Sunday after defeating Cruz Azul on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate scoreline. Henry Martin’s 78th minute penalty kick goal on Sunday proved to be the deciding goal after the teams played out a 2-1 first leg last week.
Zendejas, 26, logged 90 minutes from his right midfield position, continuing to be a key starter for Club America. Despite not getting on the stat-sheet in either leg, Zendejas was one of the top performers for Club America this season.
He scored 14 goals and registered eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. Zendejas tallied four goals and three assists during the Clausura campaign.
Overall, he’s totaled 10+ goals or more in each of the last two campaigns for Club America.
Zendejas will now enter a summer break after not being named to the U.S. men’s national team’s June roster for matches against Colombia and Brazil.
