Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot has announced that the team will not have their first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, available for Saturday’s crucial FA Cup quarter-final match against Manchester City.
The Brazilian goalie, who had to pull out of international play last week, is still recovering from a muscle injury.
In a press update on Wednesday, Slot shared a concerning report regarding Alisson, while also discussing the physical condition of other vital players ahead of the trip to Etihad Stadium.
Update on Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong
Alisson’s absence is indeed significant, but there was a sense of cautious optimism regarding right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutch international had to leave the field just 12 minutes into his match against Ecuador on Tuesday, triggering worries about a potential long-term injury.
As stated by Slot regarding the situation with Frimpong, “The national team doctor of the Netherlands informed us that his substitution was merely precautionary.”
He added, “Alisson will be sidelined for a while longer.”
This news follows a difficult period for Frimpong, who has previously dealt with four different muscle injuries during his inaugural season at Anfield.
Liverpool supporters are eagerly awaiting the results of scans, concerned since the defender has already missed 25 matches for both club and country this season.
Liverpool Faces Challenges Against Manchester City
Despite the losses of Alisson and Frimpong, Slot did share some uplifting news. Mohamed Salah, who was absent during the recent defeat against Brighton, and Federico Chiesa are both projected to be ready for the clash against City.
Additionally, Liverpool has confirmed that Alexander Isak is back in full training following a serious injury he sustained against Tottenham earlier in the season.
With Alisson unavailable, Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to start in goal, while Dominik Szoboszlai may be called upon once more to play at right-back.
