The Houston Rockets, alongside Alperen Sengun, are embarking on a transformative journey, marked by a dynamic mix of youthful talent and the extraordinary scoring prowess of Kevin Durant.
This summer, the franchise made headlines with a blockbuster trade that brought the two-time Finals MVP to Houston, instantly reshaping the team’s trajectory. For 23-year-old center Alperen Sengun, who has faced the challenge of defending Durant in the past, this acquisition comes as a breath of fresh air.
“Now I understand what it felt like to guard KD when we faced him,” Sengun shared with ESPN’s Vanessa Richardson. “Now, we don’t have to think about that—we can let other teams worry about him. I’m ready to support him in any way possible, and I’m confident he will elevate everyone around him.”

As Durant enters his 19th season in the NBA, he shows no signs of slowing down, having averaged an impressive 26.6 points per game with a stunning shooting efficiency of 53-43-84 during his last season with the Phoenix Suns. His addition presents the offensive stability that head coach Ime Udoka has been longing for.
“The numbers speak for themselves. He averages points as if it were effortless,” Udoka emphasized. “These two attributes will undoubtedly enhance our consistency throughout the lineup.”
Durant has been equally complimentary of his new frontcourt teammate, lauding Sengun’s diverse skill set and innovative play.
“I’ve played alongside many talented bigs, but Alpi brings a unique blend of skills to the table and more,” Durant remarked.
Sengun closed last season with averages of 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists, earning his first All-Star selection. He followed that with an impressive performance at EuroBasket 2025, where he led Turkey to a silver medal. His exceptional passing skills and footwork have established him as one of the most promising young big men in the league, and he is excited to explore the offensive opportunities Durant’s presence will create for the Rockets.
