Amad Diallo impresses Erik ten Hag and stakes claim for starting spot at Manchester United: Latest News and Transfers

"This has to be the year": Erik ten Hag sets challenge for Amad Diallo after his heroics in win vs. Rangers - Man United News And Transfer News

Ahead of leaving for the US leg of their pre-season tour, Manchester United needed to restore some confidence after their Rosenborg display. The team delivered as they ran out 2-0 victors against Rangers on Saturday.

Goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill in either half ensured the Red Devils ran out comfortable winners. Erik ten Hag will also be pleased with the improvement after he criticised his team last time out.

Leny Yoro made his debut for his new club and impressed as the team showed confidence while playing a high line at the back, something the manager would like to see more of in the coming season.

One player who certainly caught the eye was the Ivorian who tormented the Rangers backline whenever he got the ball and deserved his goal after some wonderful touches and passes before that.

Amad had a blinder

Mason Mount won the ball back and handed it to the right winger who danced past his marker to cut in and curled home past former United loanee Jack Butland.

The 22-year-old had 41 touches of the ball and completed 86 percent of his passes with only four of them missing their mark (all stats via sofascore).

He made three key passes, one of which should have been finished off by Ethan Wheatley, while completing all of his long balls and crosses.

He had two shots in the 45 minutes that he played, and apart from the goal, the Ivory Coast international also tried to score from a free-kick, which went mighty close.

Amad wants to be a starter

The winger showed quick feet as he completed two dribbles and was tenacious at times, winning six ground duels while also making two tackles.

The performance at the Murrayfield Stadium was a reminder of his talents and Ten Hag did praise him after the game.

“Amad is still young, but he’s not inexperienced anymore. Today he played a very good game,” the Dutchman said.

It is a huge season coming up for Amad and he will be desperate to begin the new season as a starter. He is certainly proving it on the pitch.
