A move to a new club might come with some growing pains for a player, but it certainly hasn’t done so for Brandon Vazquez.
Vazquez scored three goals in two starts over this past week, helping Monterrey earn four points out of a possible six. The U.S. men’s national team forward earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors after delivering a pair of impressive performances for his new club.
After delivering his first goal in a 1-1 draw with Queretaro, Vazquez followed that up with a terrific performance vs. Atletico San Luis. The 25-year-old delivered a clever headed finish in the 15th minute of the match before slotting home his second goal of the half just 24 minutes later.
Monterrey has certainly enjoyed Vazquez’s positive start to life in Liga MX, sitting top of the Clausura table on 10 points.
A tricky test against Club America is next on Monterrey’s schedule this weekend before opening CONCACAF Champions Cup play against Comunicaciones FC on Feb. 6.

Kevin Paredes
Kevin Paredes’ first 90-minute outing for Wolfsburg proved to be a memorable one.
Paredes started in Niko Kovac’s squad and netted his second league goal in a 1-1 home draw with Cologne. The 20-year-old attacker also drew a match-high five fouls from his left midfield position.
Paredes now has 15 Bundesliga appearances under his belt this campaign.
Sergino Dest
Sergino Dest continued to impress for Dutch leaders PSV.
Dest assisted once in PSV’s 2-0 Eredivisie triumph over Almere City FC on Sunday. The USMNT left back has now scored or assisted in four of his last six appearances across all competitions, showing his playmaking abilities in Holland.
PSV will need an in-form Dest if it wants to continue running away with the league title and also make a deeper run in the UEFA Champions League later this winter.
Gianluca Busio
Gianluca Busio is riding a blistering run of form for promotion-chasing Venezia.
Busio scored the winning goal for Venezia on Saturday in a 1-0 Serie B win over Ternana. The former Sporting KC homegrown has now scored in three-straight matches, which has certainly helped Venezia in its quest for promotion.
With the Paris Olympics coming this summer, Busio is a name to watch for USMNT involvement.
Emmanuel Sabbi
Emmanuel Sabbi continued his impactful run in the Le Havre starting lineup this past weekend.
Sabbi scored once from the penalty spot in Le Havre’s 3-3 Ligue 1 draw with Lorient on Sunday. It marked Sabbi’s fourth goal for the French side, which all have come in his last six appearances.
The 26-year-old struggled during his early weeks with Le Havre, but now has become one of the consistent scorers in the squad.
