Weston McKennie is enjoying one of his best spells as a Juventus player.
McKennie registered one assist last Sunday in a 3-0 Serie A win over Lecce, keeping the Old Lady in the hunt for the Scudetto. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder now has three assists in his last two appearances for Juventus, riding a positive run of form during the winter months.
McKennie easily could’ve ended up with Juventus’ second goal of the match, but will have to settle for an assist on Dusan Vlahovic’s finish.
The 25-year-old now has 20 league appearances under his belt this season and could be vital in the Old Lady’s Serie A push during the second half.
Juventus next hosts Empoli in Serie A play on Saturday before traveling to second place Inter Milan on Feb. 4. A domestic double could be on the cards for Juventus if it continues to roll past the competition in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from this past week:
Luca De La Torre
Luca De La Torre was one of the rare American players to start two matches in quick succession this past week.
After delivering a Man of the Match showing midweek against Valencia, De La Torre also played 76 minutes in a 1-0 La Liga loss to Real Sociedad. De La Torre scored a clever goal in Copa Del Rey play, while also assisting once in the club’s cup victory.
De La Torre has continued to earn consistent minutes this season, across all competitions.
Sergino Dest
PSV’s undefeated streak in Eredivisie play came to an end on Sunday, but Sergino Dest helped them remain unbeaten.
Dest assisted once in a 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht, keeping PSV unbeaten across its opening 18 league matches this campaign. The USMNT left back has scored or assisted in three of his last four matches, which is a great sign for Peter Bosz’s squad heading into UCL Round of 16 play later this winter.
Jordan Pefok
Jordan Pefok has had a good goalscoring return for Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Pefok scored for the second-straight match despite Gladbach’s 2-1 home league loss to Augsburg. The veteran striker has now scored five goals in his last five appearances across all competitions, which is huge following an injury spell in the fall.
Pefok now has six goals on loan from Union Berlin.
Reggie Cannon
QPR’s winless run came to an end on Saturday with the London club capturing a vital derby victory.
Reggie Cannon excelled in the 2-0 home triumph over Millwall, delivering a strong 90 minutes defensively and also clearing a Millwall scoring chance off of the goal-line. Cannon has continued to feature under Marti Cifuentes and very well could boost himself back into the USMNT picture for March involvement.
What did you think of these individual performances this past week? Was there anyone left off the list that you would’ve added?
