Amorim Claims Manchester United is Imitating Rivals’ Set-Piece Tactics

Ruben Amorim has accused Manchester United of taking set-piece strategies from other teams after they secured a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace, thanks to two goals from free-kicks.

At Selhurst Park, United turned the game around in the second half with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount, both assisted by Bruno Fernandes during set plays.

United’s tally of set-piece goals now stands at 10 for the Premier League season, which is tied with league leaders Arsenal for the highest in the league.

When asked about Manchester United’s adeptness in executing set pieces, Amorim said, “We work a lot. We have more time to train, and we learn a great deal in England. You often see this in the Premier League, but we have adopted many practices from other teams to help us score.”

After experiencing a setback with a loss to Everton earlier in the week, United was initially down at halftime, trailing 1-0 due to a penalty converted by Jean-Philippe Mateta.

However, a significant change in performance followed during the second half, marking just their second away win in the league since March. “I told the players we must be more alert, and you could see that after the break,” Amorim noted.

“Being more alert means you’re in more positions and closer to the ball. Everyone showed that spirit. We must also recognize that our opponents were fatigued in the latter part of the match.”

Amorim added, “When you elevate your pace and the opponent shows signs of tiredness, their vulnerabilities become apparent. You could sense that we were in control of the game.”
