Rúben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has opened up about the challenges facing Kobbie Mainoo in securing more playing time, pointing out that the presence of Bruno Fernandes complicates his chances of starting.

The young midfielder, who previously made strides with the first team, has found his opportunities limited this season.

Former players such as Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have voiced their concerns, suggesting that the club should provide Mainoo with more opportunities.

Amorim Discusses Mainoo’s Situation

Addressing Mainoo’s struggle for game time, Amorim stated, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“Kobbie Mainoo plays in the same position as Bruno Fernandes, and it’s difficult to take him off the team.”

This marks Amorim’s first public acknowledgment of Mainoo’s limited minutes this campaign, a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike.

Despite being viewed as one of the most promising talents from United’s academy, Mainoo’s role in the squad has waned under Amorim’s management. Fernandes has been pivotal in the midfield, consistently creating opportunities and scoring key goals.

Amorim’s tactical approach, which favors a singular advanced playmaker supported by two more defensive midfielders, has created a challenge for both players to be featured simultaneously.

Amorim further noted:

“Of course I rate Kobbie Mainoo. But in the end, it’s going to be about training and performance in matches.”

“He may not be playing as much right now, but Kobbie had his chances, particularly last year.”
