Amorim Dismisses Slot’s Comments on Manchester United
Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United manager, expressed indifference towards Arne Slot’s remarks regarding his team’s performance following their recent encounter against Liverpool. This statement comes after Slot commented on the tactical challenges posed by United during a tight 2-1 victory at Anfield.
The Red Devils achieved their first away win at Liverpool since 2016, with Harry Maguire’s late header securing the victory after Cody Gakpo equalized Bryan Mbeumo’s opening goal.
Following the match, Slot remarked on the difficulties faced against teams that adopt a low-block defensive style and primarily rely on long balls. This match marked Liverpool’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions.

In response to the criticism, Amorim chose not to engage with Slot’s assessment, stating, “Liverpool belongs to the past; I have no desire to comment on that. Focus is on our upcoming match against Brighton.” He emphasized the need for Manchester United to improve their ball handling despite celebrating the recent victory.
“It was a significant win, but I acknowledge that we must enhance our offensive play,” he added. “While acknowledging external opinions is unavoidable, my priority is evaluating our team honestly and striving for better performance on the field.”
Amorim took satisfaction in his squad’s ability to adapt and secure a notable win against a fierce rival. This victory also marked the first time under his leadership that United recorded back-to-back wins in the Premier League, sparking hopes that this could signify a turning point.
“Discussions about turning points can complicate things. Our focus should be on continuing to improve and not getting too caught up in labels,” he stated. “We’ve accumulated two wins, which is positive, but it’s time to shift our attention to the next challenge.”
Maguire and Mason Mount will undergo assessments for their injuries ahead of the match against Brighton, while Lisandro Martínez is confirmed to be unavailable. Notably, promising young player JJ Gabriel, who recently turned 15, participated in training sessions with the first team this week.
“Gabriel is certainly a talent to watch, and we want to expose him and others to the first-team environment,” Amorim remarked. “Despite our under-21s having a match, it’s valuable for the younger players to experience our training intensity and learn what it takes to compete at this level.”
