An Overview of Prize Money and Points for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships for ATP and WTA Players

2024 Wimbledon Championships ATP & WTA Prize Money & Points Overview

The Wimbledon Championships is the pinnacle of professional tennis, and the tournament organizers have announced record-breaking prize money for the 2024 edition.

This is the third Grand Slam on the tennis calendar and the only one to be played on grass courts. It will run from July 1st to 14th. Players competing in the singles tournaments can look forward to competing for four-digit rankings points and a lucrative pay package.

As in every major tournament, Wimbledon will uphold some of its core values of inclusivity and gender equality by offering equal prize money to the men and women who play at the event from qualifying until the final.

The entry list for the men’s tournament is expected to have some significant changes before the draw ceremony. Already, two-time former champion Rafael Nadal has officially withdrawn to prepare for the Olympics on clay.

World No. 3 Novak Djokovic might have to wait at least 12 more months to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight titles. He underwent knee surgery after pulling out of the Roland Garros quarterfinals and is unlikely to recover in time, according to his surgeon.

That means defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will be the odds-on favorite, with new World No. 1 Jannik Sinner a close second. Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Hubert Hurkacz will see this as a level playing field.

The women’s tournament has no shortage of star power. Iga Swiatek will pursue her first grass-court title at SW19. But she is in her most vulnerable surroundings.

So, powerful and crafty players like Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, defending champion Marketa Vondoruosva, and two-time finalist Ons Jabeur will fancy their chances against the dominant Pole.

The record prize money package at the tournament is a whopping £50 million. Distribution in the main draw will begin from the first round, with players who lose at this stage set to earn £60,000. The men and women will each receive 10 points.

Those who make it to the second round will be awarded £93,000. However, from this stage of the tournament until the semifinals, points differ for the ATP and WTA. The men receive 50 points, while the women receive 70 points.

A third-round appearance will make players competing £143,000 richer, with the men receiving 100 points and the women 130 points. Reaching the second week of Wimbledon is a massive achievement.

Players will be guaranteed a sum of £226,000 for advancing into the fourth round, with the ATP players getting 200 points and WTA players receiving 240 points. Quarterfinalists, meanwhile, will earn £375,000, along with 400 points for men and 430 points for women.

The finalists will be those who stand to grow their net worth by at least seven figures. The champions will each bank £2.7 million and receive 2000 points (the same for both tours). The runners-up, meanwhile, will take home £1.4 million and receive 1300 points (the same for both tours).
