Virtus Segafredo Bologna (Serie A) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old Italian-DR Congolese ex-international forward Nicola Akele (203cm-98kg-1995, college: URI) for season 2024-25. Akele has played for the last two years at Germani Brescia Leonessa. In 36 Serie A games he recorded 5.0ppg and 3.0rpg last season. He helped them to make it to the Supercup final and to the league semifinals.
Akele was also a member of Italian international program for some years. He played for Italian Senior National Team between 2020 and 2022 and previously for U18 National Team back in 2013.
Akele represented Italy at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) U20 in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Italy) nine years ago.
He has played previously for three other teams: Roseto, Cremona and Treviso.
Akele’s team won Italian Cup in 2023.
Akele graduated from University of Rhode Island in 2018 and it will be his seventh season as a professional player.
