2024 Olympic Women’s Tournament, Matchday 1: Match thread and discussion


The 2024 Olympic Women’s Tournament begins today, and 12 teams will compete in what is sure to be a strong tournament. Every match is sure to have incredible moments as these teams try to win a medal.

Like the men’s tournament, the women’s tournament has every team playing on a single matchday during the group stage. Today, Canada will take on New Zealand, Spain will battle Japan, Germany will face Australia, Nigeria and Brazil will take the field, and hosts France will compete against Colombia in addition to the USWNT’s opening match against Zambia.
