Analysis and Discussion of 2024 Copa América Semifinals: Matchday 2

2024 Copa América Semifinals, Matchday 2: Match thread and discussion

The 2024 Copa America semifinals were action-packed last night, with Argentina booking a place in the final on Sunday and Canada having to settle for the 3rd place match on Saturday. Tonight, Uruguay and Colombia will see who ends up in Miami with a chance to lift the trophy and who has to remain in Charlotte for the 3rd place match.

Colombia enters this match on a 27-match unbeaten streak, easily the hottest team in the world. They were the only team to advance to the semifinals in regulation, destroying Panama 5-0 in the quarterfinals. They have so many guys who are capable of scoring bushels of goals, and the attack can come from anywhere on the field. They’ll hope to continue their torrid pace in an effort to give themselves a chance to get to Miami.

Uruguay stands in their way, arriving in the semifinals by beating Brazil on penalties. They’ve won in every fashion in this tournament, and they hope they can keep Colombia’s attack contained and distribute some of their own. They’ll need guys like Darwin Núñez and Fede Valverde to shine, and the defense needs to come through. If so, they can end Colombia’s streak and make it to Miami.
