National League 1 newcomer Ilysiakos Athens strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 34-year old former international 194cm guard Nikos Pappas for season 2024-25. Pappas played most recently at Panathinaikos in the GBL. GBL was a little too high level for him, where in four games he recorded just 0.5ppg in 2022-23 year. National League 1 will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time.
He was also a member of Greek international program for some years. Pappas played for Greek Senior National Team between 2010 and 2017 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2010.
He represented Greece at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) seven years ago. His stats at that event were 7 games: 7.4ppg, 1.4rpg, 1.4apg, 1.0spg, FGP: 70.8%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 81.8%.
Pappas is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Italy, Poland (Enea Zastal), Spain (Surne Bilbao and Real Madrid 2nd team), and Greece (PAOK Mateco Thessaloniki, Panionios, AEK Betsson, Panellinios, and Kolossos H Hotels Rodou). Pappas won Greek League championship title in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and the cup in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. He was voted to Greek League All-Star Game back in 2008 and 2020.
