The Chicago Bears surprised absolutely nobody by taking USC quarterback Caleb Williams first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, as he will now be next in line to try to break the curse of bad quarterback play that has plagued this franchise for decades.

One interesting nugget came out today that shows that not only was Williams locked in at No. 1, but the Bears’ No. 9 pick also shouldn’t have been much of a mystery.

Carmen Vitali of FOX Sports went on “Up & Adams” today to discuss the Bears, and she shared that a week before the draft, Williams had a throwing session with Bears wide receivers DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, and also in attendance for the session was No. 9 pick Rome Odunze.

It makes us feel stupid as fans when we listen to so many conflicting rumors and reports for months leading up to the draft, and then after the draft, we hear things like this that would have squashed so many false rumors that the media ran with.

Odunze being in this throwing session should have spoiled the pick, as this is an unusual thing to do prior to draft day.

That being said, it’s great to see Williams already getting on the same page with his new weapons, and Odunze should eventually be his long-term WR1 and form an exciting young duo that could take over the NFL.

As for now, learning behind Allen and Moore will help Odunze tremendously, and the three together form one of the league’s most dangerous WR rooms.

Bears fans haven’t been able to say that for a long time.
