The Denver Broncos were reportedly always locked in on Bo Nix.

The Oregon product arrived in Mile High as the odds-on favorite to get the starting job for Week 1, with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson as his competitors.

Nonetheless, that might not be the case.

According to the latest reports, Wilson has been quite solid during the offseason, and HC Sean Payton didn’t necessarily rule him out of contention.

Talking to the media, he talked about taking a year-to-year approach and that his goal was to win this year, which is why he would make a decision based on the present and not the future.

With that in mind, Kay Adams claimed that perhaps Wilson has a better shot than some people gave him at first, per “Up & Adams.”

The Broncos declined his fifth-year option, which was a no-brainer, as that would’ve meant giving him $22 million in 2025.

Wilson will now become an unrestricted free agent after this season, so he has plenty of motivation to be at his best.

But more than that, going after Wilson was an intentional decision.

Per Adams, they could’ve gone after guys like Sam Howell or even Justin Fields and they didn’t; they purposely targeted the BYU product, so there must be some things to his game that entice Payton.

Wilson’s tenure in New York was one to forget, but he’s still young and his former teammates have always raved about his talent.

Perhaps all he needed was a change of scenery to finally showcase his skills.
