Analyst: Patrick Mahomes Faces Make-or-Break Season

Patrick Mahomes will attempt to lead his Kansas City Chiefs to a third consecutive Super Bowl victory this upcoming season, a feat no team has ever accomplished.

A three-peat would give the Chiefs four Super Bowl wins in six years, and one analyst believes despite all this success, this is a “prove it” year for Mahomes.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark appeared on ESPN’s First Take recently and said this is a “prove it” year for Mahomes because “This year, he reminds us why we started having the ‘will he replace Tom Brady as the GOAT’ conversation.”

Clark added that Mahomes is competing against himself at this point since he has firmly established himself as the best in the league and said that now that he won a Super Bowl with one of the league’s worst groups of wide receivers, he will have to prove what he can do once again with Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy coming in to build up the receiving corps.

Mahomes will turn 29 in the first month of the season and it’s too early to be comparing him to Brady at least until he has more years and more championships under his belt, but a three-peat would put him in a class of his own.

Mahomes is coming off his worst statistical season with just 27 touchdowns and 14 picks while throwing for 4,183 yards, but the upgrades to the wide receiver position should push his numbers back up.

His relationship with his new receivers will be an interesting subplot to keep an eye on early in the season.
